The Motion Picture Foundation, a non-profit arm of the National Association of Theater Owners (NATO), announced on Sunday that it would be offering the discount to celebrate the first-ever National Motion Picture Day, which falls on September 3. . Each movie, time and format will be $3 per ticket at theaters nationwide.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, more than 3,000 cinemas will take part in the one-day event, including major chains like Regal and AMC, both of which have locations throughout New York City and surrounding areas.

“This day is for moviegoers across the United States, celebrating the way movies are meant to be seen, on the big screen,” said Ken Thewes, Chief Marketing Officer of Regal. “We’re thrilled to be part of National Movie Day, offering our moviegoers the opportunity to see the latest blockbusters at Regal, in any format, for just $3.”

To put the discount in perspective, the average ticket price in the United States was $9.16 in 2019, according to NATO. For families, the money saved could really add up.

NATO was launched earlier this year and is a trade organization that represents more than 35,000 movie screens nationwide.
